Dubai Airports Terminal 3

Smartworld successfully upgraded Dubai Airports Terminal 3 with Amadeus biometric self-service. The New biometric check-in kiosks and Auto Bag Drop technology delivers a safer, more automated passenger experience at Dubai Airports.

When traveling through an airport, today’s passengers increasingly demand a low touch and automated experience that minimizes face-to-face interaction. Passengers want to move through the terminal quickly, safely, and with minimal friction. It’s against this backdrop that Dubai Airports has chosen to implement a new suite of biometric self-service check-in and bag drop technology from Amadeus. 16 self-service check-in kiosks and 32 Series 7 Auto Bag Drop units from ICM Airport Technics, an Amadeus company, were made available to passengers in Dubai Airport’s Terminal 3, dedicated to Emirates Group, between September and November this year.  Passengers using this technology can identify themselves using biometrics thanks to a collaboration between technology firms Amadeus, NEC and Tascent. Passengers that wish to use biometrics for a smoother experience simply approach the check-in kiosk or Auto Bag Drop (ABD) unit where a facial scan is captured by high-grade cameras, supplied by Tascent. Next, the passenger’s facial scan is checked against their passport by NEC’s matching algorithm, confirming their identity before they proceed to security, removing the need for a manual document check by an agent. ICM provides the biometric application, as well as the Common Use Self Service platform, which connects these technologies with the airline’s systems to deliver the solution.
